There are many ways you can purchase a few essential items to create your own home gym!

You do not have to go out and buy expensive machines or bulky equipment.  There are various workouts you can do in your home that help you achieve your own health and fitness goals

For cardiovascular exercise you can run, walk, run up stairs, play sports, or even purchase workout DVD’s that you can do in your home.  It may be cold outside right now, but if you plan your workouts during the warmest part of the day, you can still utilize the outdoors to workout!

You can purchase things like resistance bands, kettle bells, medicine balls, and small dumbbells that you can stash in your closet (or even under your bed) and use them for your workouts.  There are dozens of exercises and routines you can do with these simple tools that can still help you reach your health and fitness goals.

Once you have been on a consistent and regular workout routine you can either buy heavier kettle bells, dumb bells, and resistance bands or maybe by that time you will have the money in your budget to join a gym.

The key is to create and execute a regular workout routine so that you can start to achieve your health and fitness goals. once you surpass them  you can then decide what other things you can use for your workout (if you still decide not to use a gym).  There are so many resources available for anyone to use if they decide to not go to a gym at all or not on a regular basis.  It can get expensive! But, you do have to put some money into getting healthier if you want to see the right results!

So why wait now!  You can find most of the items for a very reasonable price at your local super stores.  You can even find them online!! You will just have to take some time and shop around! I am in no way endorsing a brand or store but while I was doing some Christmas shopping I found some great deals on exercise gear at places like Ross, Target, and Wal-Mart.  They all had several items that were on sale for great prices! I have access to a gym BUT I still picked up a few items to use at home on those crazy snow days when I am unable to make it to the gym.

So now you have NO excuse!! Start looking now!

Today I have another great post written by Mr. Sean Byrne.  He has contributed post in the past for this blog so I asked him to write another!

As the COLD winter time is quickly approaching it will be hard to be able to get outside and run.  Sometimes it will be hard to get up and leave your house period!! I know the colder it gets…the more and more I DO NOT want to leave my house! Well lucky for you there are some great options for you to consider if you are wanting to create your own workout area in your own home!

Today he is going to discuss treadmills! So lets see what he has to say!…

Treadmills Aren’t Just For Human Fitness Ya Know!

Treadmills have been in the market now for a long time. They were first developed to serve human fitness and they are to this day, one of the most popular exercise machines in the market. However, a lot of people assume that these fitness devices are for human benefit only.
This may have been true up until recently, where a number of companies have designed and developed treadmill machines for dogs. Yes.. you did hear that right! Treadmill machines for dogs!

I would imagine your next question would be something like, “Why would any company create a treadmill device for a dog, they don’t need exercise like we humans do?” Well… if you had that mentality, I am afraid you’d be wrong to think so. Whilst there are some treadmills out on the market right now that offer fantastic value for the human user. At the same time, there is also treadmill machines on the market for your pet dogs too… and for good reason might I add!

As obesity levels continue to rise in humans, there is also a growing trend of pet dogs who are also developing a pot belly. There are a number of reasons for this trend. One of the obvious reasons is that pet dogs are not getting enough exercise due to their owners not having the time to take them for a walk in the fresh air and giving their legs a stretch. For those who live in apartments with no backyard, it’s no wonder your dog begins to develop unhealthy levels of weight.

Just like their owners, dogs can also experience obesity and this affects their lives in terms of quality of life and longevity. In the United States, there are about 53% of mature dogs who are considered obese. This statement comes from the association of Pet Obesity Prevention. So in order to fight off obesity in dogs, there has been a new clinic established specifically for pet dogs. Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, Massachusetts made this announcement back in September of this year and they continue to cater for unhealthy pets across the country.

So how can you tell if your pet is obese? Apparently if you can’t feel their ribs as you lay your hands on their front end, they are considered obese. Your pet dog needs at least twenty to thirty minutes of exercise each and every day. A dog who is not getting enough exercise, will be less happy and can develop continuous health problems.

Using a treadmill for canine Cardio is a great way to develop your pup’s fitness levels and get them into better shape. Over at Dogpacer.com, David Ezra (CEO) said they have sold hundreds of canine treadmills over the last seven months since they hit the market. I would personally assume that they will sell a lot over the Christmas period, as more dog owners become aware of the rise in obesity levels for unhealthy pets. Perhaps these machine might become as popular as the top brand machines in the human treadmill market. We’ll just have to watch this space as they say.

I hope that you guys enjoyed what he had to say! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions!!

…Fitness Newbie Tips… http://www.infinitelifefitness.com/2012/06/21/fitness-newbie-tips/ http://www.infinitelifefitness.com/2012/06/21/fitness-newbie-tips/#comments Thu, 21 Jun 2012 20:32:51 +0000 admin http://infinitelifefitness.com/?p=632 I have been getting some request from some “Fitness Newbies” who wanted some general tips to help them out with some of their fitness goals.

Well instead of writing out some long post (because i honestly have TONS of tips for newbies) I decided to share some YouTube videos that I thought would be a little more helpful.

I will also be sure to make more post in the future on some great fitness tips to help those out who are needing the help and advice.

Warm Ups:

I have said this MANY times…it is wise to warm up/stretch before your workout.  You can create your own warm up…but i can see how that would be hard for those who have never had to do this before…so here is a suggestion…

Push Ups:

It is SO important to learn the CORRECT way to do these from the start! If not…you will do them wrong until someone sees you and corrects you! And, you also need to do them correctly in order to get the best results out of this exercise

Non-Gym Workouts:

I know that some people are on a tight budget and just can not afford to purchase a gym membership.  THAT IS OK!  There are so many things you can do IN YOUR HOME that will still allow you to get an amazing workout!

Yoga:

There have been some request for some Yoga tips…to be honest I bought an amazing DVD that I watch and follow.  I got into yoga because a college friend of mine taught the classes here in town.  She moved away so I had to find other alternatives (until she makes a DVD :-)   )

I hope these videos explain and show you some things better than I can explain them by writing them down in this blog. Please keep sending me your questions…comments…and suggestions! I am here to help YOU GUYS! So please take advantage of the advice you can receive!

…Family Boot Camp: Fight Child Obesity… http://www.infinitelifefitness.com/2011/11/15/child-obesity/ http://www.infinitelifefitness.com/2011/11/15/child-obesity/#comments Tue, 15 Nov 2011 17:54:41 +0000 admin http://infinitelifefitness.com/?p=169 Fitness and health are my overall passion.  But what I also would like to work hard at is helping to eliminate childhood obesity.

Looking back on my own personal childhood, there was not a time where I would beg to stay inside and play.  Yes, I was lucky enough to be one of those kids who was athletic.  But, at the same time, I also remember running around OUTSIDE with the other children I knew and grew up with.  Seeing today’s society and dangers does not allow children of today to roam their neighborhoods freely like I did back in the 80′s and 90′s.  But there are things that parents can do to get their kids away from the TV’s and game consoles!

One great thing is to impalement physical activity time during your family daily routine.  I know when I was a kid, we had a routine when we got home from school.  Get home, do our homework, read for an hour, dinner time, some nights were family fame night, then off to bed.  Granted we did not get home until 6 or 7 (or later some nights) but each family can plan their own family post school/work day routines.  Why not work out as a family? Yes, some gyms do offer discounted rates for family memberships but some people can not afford that expense each month.  Here are some suggestions that you can do as a family:

Walking:

The family can plan a special route that they walk a few nights a week (or even jog! If there are more children in the family you can offer a competition and have them race at certain points in your route).   You can walk around the neighborhood or if there is a nearby park.  You can maybe even do it right after school when you pick the children up (seeing as most schools have fitness tracks or fitness areas at their school).

Family Boot Camp:

A few nights a week you can create a Family Boot Camp workout.  This can include moves that ALL members of the family can complete.  This is a great idea because each member of the family will also work as a support system when someone needs a little encouragement to finish the selected workout move.  You can choose to do certain moves for a selected period of time (for 30 – 60 seconds) or you can say you have to do that move so many times before you move on to the next move.  Here are some suggested moves that you can incorporate in your family boot camp:

  • Jumping Jacks (It is good to have this exercise be timed. Set a clock or watch for approximately 1 minute to 2 minutes) This is also a great exercise to do to help get the family warmed up! Don’t forget that it is important to warm up and stretch before your fitness routines!
  • Push Ups (this is also a great move to do but to also time it.  To start off it is a good idea to start at 30 seconds and as you do these more and get better at doing them you can add time to this exercise).
  • Crunches (also called “sit ups”)
  • Jog in place or run for a certain distance (If you are having to move your workout inside due to the upcoming cold weather running in place is a great idea. Make sure to lift your knees and to actually go through the motions of running.  You can also set up cones or any other things you have available to have family members run that distance and back for a selected amount of time.)
  • Jumping Rope
  • Running up/down stairs (This is good to do if you have the space to do it.  Please BE CAREFUL if attempting to do this.  Make sure that no one is rushing to go up or down the stairs to help eliminate a mistake which will allow someone to fall and hurt themselves).
  • Chair Dips (Thanks to this article look at the following picture to see how to correctly do a chair dip.  Make sure to find a good sturdy chair and a chair that is also big enough to use).

  • Straight Arm Plank (Thanks to this article for describing this move.  You will want to time this move for about 30 – 60 seconds.  It is wise to start off at 30 seconds and raise the time once you have done this a few times)

Straight-arm plank

  • Squats (thanks to this website they have listed TONS of variations of squats that you can do at home.  They have also listed as well as show you many different exercises you can do at home with a partner or by yourself)

You can also try these simple Yoga moves that the whole family can try!

It is suggested that you work through the above listed exercises 3 times (go through all of them once and complete them again in 2 different sets).  After you have done that you can alter the workout to better fit your family and your time schedule.

Hope that these tips helped you out.  The best way to help your kids is to teach them healthy habits starting now! This will allow them to continue to practice these healthy habits as they grow up and become adults.  I promise they will thank you later for it!
